Joel Bishop is the Chief AI Officer and Co-Founder of Smartworks AI Solutions, where he leads the company's vision for applying artificial intelligence to solve complex business challenges. Partnering with Rocco Lombardo, Founder of Smartworks Solutions, Joel has built Smartworks AI Solutions on the principle that highly technical teams, working with agility and creativity, can drive transformative results. Every member of the organization is hands-on, contributing across disciplines and bringing the versatility that comes from careers rooted in programming, web development, and database engineering.

With more than 25 years of experience in enterprise systems, architecture, and digital transformation, Joel has served in senior leadership roles at major global organizations, including as Global Head of Architecture at Takeda Pharmaceuticals. In this role, he defined and executed international technology strategies across the U.S., Europe, LATAM, and APAC, leading initiatives in cloud adoption, data platforms, and AI-enabled digital health. His technical foundation—spanning software development, databases, networking, and security—has positioned him as a trusted leader for designing scalable, secure, and compliant enterprise systems.

Joel is committed to continuous learning and advancement. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Boston University and has completed executive-level certifications in AI and Machine Learning from MIT. His expertise combines strategic leadership with deep technical knowledge, ensuring that technology investments align with long-term business objectives.

In addition to his corporate leadership, Joel is also an entrepreneur with experience operating a farm and food service business. This dual perspective allows him to understand firsthand the challenges of small and mid-sized businesses, particularly the need to maximize limited technology budgets while still driving innovation and growth.
